Nintendo Officially Announces the Price of the Nintendo Switch 2
Today, Nintendo officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will maintain its price of $449 for the base model in the United States, while the Mario Kart World bundle will be available for $499.
This announcement comes amidst concerns about rising prices due to the recent economic challenges. The company also confirmed that pre-order reservations for the platform will begin on April 24, with the first shipments expected to reach the markets by June 5, 2025.
The Price of Nintendo Switch 2 Remains the Same, But the Accessories...
While the price of the console itself remains unchanged in all announced regions, Nintendo revealed in its official blog some changes in the prices of accessories compared to what was posted on April 2nd. Here are the updated prices:
- Base Model Switch 2: $449.99
- Mario Kart World Bundle: $499.99
- Pro Controller: $84.99
- Pair of Joy-Con 2: $94.99
- Camera for the device: $54.99
- Charging Case: $39.99
Nintendo commented on the delay in opening pre-orders, stating:
"We apologize for the delay, and we hope this announcement alleviates any concerns from our audience. We share your passion for experiencing Switch 2 starting this June."
Why the Price Increase?
Bill Trinen, Vice President of Player Experience at Nintendo, explained the reasons behind the price increase compared to the first edition, attributing it to inflation, which affects everything, including technology. According to him, smartphones have become much more expensive compared to the year 2000. Meanwhile, the technical advancement of the Nintendo Switch 2 requires additional costs but guarantees an exceptional experience.
Nintendo's Response to Complaints About the Price
In a tone that surprised millions, Nintendo advised players who are complaining about the higher price to stick with the original Switch 1, confirming that support for it will continue for a long time after the next-generation release. The new version promises improved technical features, but it seems the company understands that fan loyalty may not be easily shaken by price increases amid the current economic climate.
As the pre-order date approaches and some rush to buy the device despite its high price, many wonder if Switch 2 will maintain the legacy of the previous generation, which is the best-selling console in history. The answer will come on June 5, 2025, the official release date.
Summary: While the Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive with upgraded features and a higher price tag, Nintendo's bold stance on the price and its commitment to supporting the original Switch indicates a strong belief in the value of its products. Only time will tell if fans will embrace the new generation, or if the legacy of the original Switch remains unmatched.
